Unspun Animated
My multidisciplinary work “Unspun Animated” is a wool-based stop motion animation music video that addresses the importance of maintaining a vibrant artistic practice through chronic pain, illness, and injury. This project began in September 2023, when I was commissioned by Chenoa Anderson to create a solo flute piece as part of her “Dystonic Project” (Canada Council for the Arts). In 2025, with the support of the Edmonton Arts Council, I began the delightful and all encompassing work of created wool-based puppets, props, and sets for a stop-motion film I directed and animated. The work portrays a disabled female creator who, across the three movements of the musical piece, transforms raw wool into yarn through hand-spinning, then knits a sweater — a fibre arts practice that gives her the escape she needs to maintain her emotional and mental well-being in the face of her illness.
“Unspun Animated” is in the final editing stage, and will be released in August 2026. Stay tuned!
